Exhibitions

Brandywine, through its galleries and exhibition programs, provides the opportunity for artists to exhibit works of the highest quality, and for the Philadelphia area community and out-of-town visitors to experience the diversity, creativity and most recent innovations in printmaking. Brandywine has two exhibition galleries in its historic Firehouse building: The Printed Image Gallery & The Henry O. Tanner Gallery

The Printed Image Gallery

This museum quality gallery presents culturally and aesthetically diverse contemporary exhibitions. Staff and guest curators select works by former visiting artists and others, presented as one person and group exhibitions. Exhibition themes sometimes help direct the selection of artists for residencies, while others are jointly organized with various institutions or come to Brandywine as traveling exhibitions. All exhibitions are works on paper: prints, drawings, photographs and collages. (Artists’ applications for exhibitions are not accepted.)

The Henry O. Tanner Gallery

This gallery is available for student work from local high schools and colleges, young professional artists, or for periodic exhibits from the Brandywine permanent collection.

National and International Traveling Exhibitions

Brandywine’s exhibitions have and continue to tour throughout the world, and consist of selections of prints produced by Visiting Artist Fellows. Brandywine has also sponsored collaborative exhibits and international exchange programs.

Nationally, Brandywine programs target the culturally diverse populations of large urban areas and small- to mid-size institutions with need of high quality, low cost contemporary exhibitions
