Brandywine's Achievement Award |

Established in 1976 and awarded annually, the Brandywine Achievement Award (formerly known as the Van Der Zee Award in honor of James Van Der Zee)* is presented to distinguished African American Artists to recognize and celebrate their creative genius and contributions to the advancement of opportunities for artists of color.
A Lifetime Achievement Award is given annually to either an educator, historian, civic leader or arts patron who has demonstrated commitment and involvement in the encouragement of young artists and to the improvement of the community through the arts
*A long-time member of the Brandywine Workshop Board of Directors until his death in 1983 at the age of 96, James Van Der Zee was an internationally acclaimed photographer most noted for his documentation of Harlem life between the World Wars. |

| Visiting artists and curators lecture in the Brandywine galleries in support of the exhibition program
and to help inform our public about current art trends, the medium of printmaking and to examine relevant issues of the day. These lectures, along with book signings, workshops, seminars and panel discussions, are always free to the public. Brandywine also participates with affiliate institutions in the joint presentation of its educational programs in Philadelphia and around the country. |

| Internship Training in Printmaking For students, recent high school graduates. Unlike a traditional apprentice program that leads directly to employment, the internships in the areas of Curatorial, Arts Administration and Printmaking are a supplement to academic and technical training and serve as a career bridge to further, more advanced work in the field. This is a great opportunity for networking, building professional contacts, and diverse exposure.
Free Tours and Presentations for Youth Groups
Brandywine’s
uniqueness as a visual arts organization provides interesting
opportunities to learn about the working process of artists, their
backgrounds and inspirations. Our target audiences are 9th grade and above, but programs can be tailored to middle school students. We
emphasis art as a collaborative process (printmaking, video), culture
and the role of ethnicity in creative expression, which may appeal to
teachers exploring literature, politics, history or social studies.
Brandywine
is working to provide free online lesson plans, which provide an
integrated approach to curriculum. The program should start in fall,
2012.

Offset Institute of Brandywine |
A program of research and print production workshops conceived to develop and advance the use of large-format offset printmaking technology in the creation of original fine art. The Institute is served by the “Visiting Artist Fellowship” program and acts as a facilitator for artists’ projects which explore innovation and collaborative approaches to image development. The program serves as a laboratory for investigation and experimentation by serious artists of all ages, providing advanced study opportunities for young, emerging and established artists and university professors. |

Joint Projects and Contract Printing |
Brandywine entertains proposals from artists seeking joint sponsorship of print projects and accepts contract printing for screenprinting, electronic (digital format) or offset processes. (Reproduction work will not be considered.) Jointly sponsored projects begin as soon as budgets are identified. Since estimates on contract printing vary according to project specifications, applicants should call for quotations. Proposals are accepted anytime with submission of the same material as Fellowship applicants, also identifying sources of matching support (cash or in-kind).
